Durham University

As a partner, Durham University is committed to protecting children from the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation. They intend to collaborate on the following activities:

  1. The production of co-branded communication and advocacy products in relation to protecting children from various forms of air pollution. In particular, Prof. Claire Horwell’s FACE-UP consortium is developing public information products for children and their parents in relation to air pollution exposure reduction and the use of respiratory protection. Additionally, Prof. Horwell is Director of the International Volcanic Health Hazard Network (www.ivhhn.org) and UNICEF has asked IVHHN to coproduce a technical note on protecting children from harm during volcanic eruptions. This work will enable the elevation of children’s environmental health issues across civil society, humanitarian and governmental sectors.
  2. Contribute research specific to air pollution and the protection of children’s health and sharing guidance, tools and best-practices arising from the research.
  3. Provide technical assistance, expertise and technical resources on children’s environmental health, especially in relation to respiratory protection from air pollutants and on preparing the health response to volcanic crises.
  4. Participate in joint convenings and promotion of coherent approaches to protection of children’s environmental health.
