Environmental health risks to children in Cambodia are a growing concern, as recent estimates and global reports have indicated. These risks include exposure to lead and mercury and household air pollution. Cambodia is among the countries with high environmental risk factors, being in the top 5 countries in East Asia and the Pacific with the highest burden of lead exposure, with more than half of
children under 18 having elevated blood lead levels), and air pollution, with 18% of under-five mortality was attributable to air pollution.
As there has been no country-level assessment or study conducted on environmental health risks in Cambodia looking particularly at the impact on children, the Royal Government of Cambodia, with the technical support of UNICEF, has conducted an assessment of Children's Environmental Health (CEH) in Cambodia to identify priority areas for research, policy actions, regulations, and institutional capacity building to improve CEH in the country.
