Resolution 45/20 emphasizes that the Convention on the Rights of the Child constitutes the international legal foundation for the respect, protection and fulfilment of the rights of the child, bearing in mind the importance of the Optional Protocols to the Convention, and calling for their universal ratification and effective implementation. The Convention on the Rights of the Child requires States parties to pursue the full implementation of the right of the child to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health by taking measures to combat disease and malnutrition, taking into consideration the dangers and risks of environmental pollution.

Reaffirming also that the Convention on the Rights of the Child requires States parties 
to pursue the full implementation of the right of the child to the enjoyment of the highest 
attainable standard of physical and mental health by taking measures to, inter alia, combat 
disease and malnutrition, including through the provision of adequate nutritious foods and 
clean drinking water, taking into consideration the dangers and risks of environmental
